Expressing concern over the official language Konkani being given step-motherly treatment in the State, the Revolutionary Goans Party has demanded that the Official Language Act be acted in toto so that Konkani is given its rightful place.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Tuesday, RGP Supremo Manoj Parab informed that though the Act was passed way back in 1987, it is yet to be implemented in letter and spirit.
“The gazette notifications of the government are not published in Konkani, also the forms available in various government departments are not available in Konkani. Even the notification of the Official Language Act is yet to be translated in Konkani, which is highly condemnable,” Parab informed.
He further said that a RGP delegation met the Official Language Act Director Raju Gawas and urged him to ensure that the Act be implemented in toto.
“We have demanded that the Official Gazette, department forms, GPSC written tests, interviews, government websites, etc be available in Konkani,” Parab said while also demanding that post-graduate and under-graduate exams of Goa University be conducted in Konkani along with various other demands.
RGP has further demanded that all government laws need to be made available in Konkani so that the common man gets in-depth knowledge of the same.
