In a rare display of inclusiveness at the polls, nine transgenders and 41 sex workers exercised their franchise at the Assembly elections on Monday.
Chief Electoral Officer Kunal said the Election Commission had taken special efforts to identify voters from the vulnerable section of society such as transgenders and sex workers.
"There are nine transgenders and 41 sex workers who were listed as voters,” said Kunal.
“Block-level officers along with NGOs took considerable efforts to register these voters. One of the transgenders even spoke to the media after voting, thereby indicating that transgenders had confidently voted at these elections,” said Kunal.
