The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued strict guidelines for admissions in schools with the main focus on neighborhood schooling. Additionally, the guidelines also prohibit screening procedure for admissions and will be implemented from the coming academic year.
Based on the distance of the residence of the student to the school, marks will be allotted while granting admission.
As far as primary section is concerned, the highest marks of 60 will be allotted to the student residing within the radius of 1 km, followed by 50 mks to the student residing between 2-3 kms and so on. Additionally, if the student has a sibling studying in the same school, 10 mks would be given. Similarly, if the parents of the child are old students of the school, 10 mks would be allotted.
The headmaster of the school has to identify habitation/localities around the school jurisdiction as per the guidelines based on the distance and display them on the notice board prior to the announcement of the final list.
Nonetheless, parents have to produce documents like Aadhaar Card, Domicile/Residence Certificate issued by competent authority, Election Identity Card, Telephone Bill, Property Tax Receipt of Residence and Ration Card.
Interestingly, 20 percent of seats in schools may be allotted at the discretion of the management while 10 percent will be discretion of Education Director for allotment.
During the admission process, schools have been directed to maintain absolute transparency right from primary to the high school level.
