Mahrashtrawadi Gomantak Party’s Lion set its foot in Salcete on Monday to test the political waters in areas where rival BJP had a virtual monopoly over the traditional majority community vote in the last decade and half.
Party big boss and former PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar led the MGP campaign in Fatorda by opening party candidate Dilip Naik’s office, where BJP’s Damu Naik is seeking a comeback. Dhavlikar later hopped into neighbouring Navelim to open the election office of party candidate Satyavijai Naik, where the BJP has extended support to sitting Independent MLA Avertano Furtado, sending clear indications that the Goa’s oldest regional party is out to take on the coalition partner in the minority dominated taluka.
In his speech, Sudin sought to expose the misdeed of the BJP government during the last five years, slamming the government for its decisions on the tenancy and mundkarial legislations. In fact, Sudin promised the people around that the MGP-led government would reverse the government’s decision on the tenancy and mundkarial legislations if the alliance came to power in the state.
He took a dig at Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar over his promise to provide 50,000 jobs to Goan unemployed youth. “This government has fooled the unemployed youth of Goa. The PWD had issued advertisements to recruit 2500 youth, but this government has sabotaged the recruitment drive,” he said, and demanded to know with what face the government has promised to provide 50,000 jobs to the unemployed.
On the infrastructure front, the former PWD Minister tore into the claims made by the Chief Minister and the ruling party. “Let the Chief Minister show the infrastructure projects completed in the state other than the ones taken up by the PWD. The government should explain why the district could not be completed on time. The government should explain why funds to the tune of Rs 15 crore was not released to complete the Navelim Sewerage treatment plants,” he questioned.
MGP Navelim candidate Satyavijai Naik said that his candidature has evoked good response from a cross section of the people, exuding confidence of his victory in the husting.
BBSM leader Uday Bhembre also took potshots at the government, saying while the wealth of the ministers and MLAs have doubled in the last five years, people of Goa suffered at the hands of the government.
