Officials of the Income Tax department (Margao Range) on Tuesday planted about 200 saplings during a tree plantation drive along the Cansaulim-Verna road, as part of the annual Income Tax Day celebrations to be held on Wednesday.
Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (Margao Range) Manjit Singh was the ghief guest, while others present on the occasion included Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax R A Prasad, members of Income Tax department, Rodic Consultancy Pvt Ltd (RCPL) Sr manager Kiran Vishwaroop and Sandeep Azrencar of Margao Vanamahostava Samiti.
The event was carried out in association with Rodic Consultancy Pvt Ltd (RCPL).
Speaking to reporters, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (Margao Range) Manjit Singh emphasised the importance of growing trees and saving water and said the Income Tax department has been highlighting awareness on environment and afforestation to mark the 159th annual income tax day celebrations.
“Tree plantation drives should not be limited to a particular day but on every occasion. A tree should be planted as part of celebrations so that we can give a great green world to our future generations,” said Singh.
Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax R A Prasad said people were under the perception that Income Tax department was only dealing with tax collections.
“Tax collection is spent on the progress of the nation and it has now begun a new initiative for a social cause. We want to protect environment along with nation building and hence, we have conducted this tree plantation drive. We will continue this plantation drive in different areas through out the year,” said Prasad.
Income Tax Inspector Nagraj Aklenkar said the Income Tax department has organised various events throughout Goa, which include tree plantation drives, blood donation camps, health awareness talks, etc.
RCPL Senior Manager Kiran Vishwaroop said his company had carried out a similar program along the Kundapur highway as well.
“We have undertaken a tree plantation project along a 187-km stretch of the four-lane highway between Kundapur and the Goa-Karnataka border. We have completed around 80% of our project there and the remaining stretch will be completed by 2020,” said Vishwaroop.
