Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Tuesday clarified that the government has rejected the current Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) and has already sent it back to the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Chennai.

He said a new plan will be prepared based on suggestions of the people and that public presentations will be held for the same.

“Will go to every village and send the base plan to the Centre”, Cabral said in his reply to a calling attention motion raised by MLA Dayanand Sopte.

He assured that an in-depth plan would be prepared taking into account all suggestions of stakeholders and those who will be affected before finalising the coastal plan.

Promising to clear the misunderstanding among people, Cabral said “my endeavour is to reach out to every section of the society so as to gather valuable inputs from them... we will also be visiting every local body shortly”.The minister also informed that his department will engage an agency to find out the ground truth regarding sand dunes which seem to be improperly plotted.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant who also spoke said people are opposing the coastal plan due to confusion. “There are only some individuals who are making a noise regarding the plan... if these people are kept out, I’m sure others will understand the reality. Presentations in Pernem and Canacona will held again if need be”, he said.
