Saying that India has suffered in the past for want of unity amongst its people, Union Minister Shripad Naik has said the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has is now commanding respect at the international level and countries pay heed to India’s stand on issues.
Speaking at the Unity in Diversity program organased at the Ravindra bhavan, Margao as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, Naik claimed that this was amply proved during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
“PM Modi’s intervention helped to evacuate all Indians, including the beleaguered students from Ukraine. Even the world listened when Modi spoke on the war. This is the respect India is now getting in the comity of nations,” he said.
In his address, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said though India is a vast country, with many language, regions, customs, tradition, the country is united and that one today because of unity in diversity.
“Today, Margao is like a mini-India where people from different states are living. They have adopted local customs over the years in the true spirt of unity in diversity,” he added.
The former Chairman of Margao’s Ravindra Bhavan, Damu Naik, said India is rich in diversity and it’s this unity in diversity that has made the country strong.
Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar, Margao Municipal Councilors and other BJP leaders were present for the programme.
