Goans are getting addicted to alcohol at an early age: Doctor

Stating that he has never touched alcohol in his life, St Andre MLA Borkar highlighted that individual willpower is important to stay away from alcohol addiction.
Borkar was speaking at an awareness programme on prevention of alcoholism organised by Azossim-Mandur panchayat in association with Azmane High School Neura at Dhaktem Bhat, Mandur, on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Borkar said, “Very often, I find myself in company of persons drinking alcohol but I never touched it. In fact, I even advise these persons to stay away from alcohol before they get addicted to it.”
“If one shows the willpower then one can definitely stay away from such addictions,” Borkar added while exhorting those who are used to consume alcohol to get help before it is too late.
Dr Anil Rane, IPHB medical superintendent, highlighted how Goans are getting addicted to alcohol at an early age.
“Today, we are getting patients in their 20s and 30s, which is a cause of concern and the powers that be should bring in regulations to ensure that youngsters do not get access to alcohol at an early age,” Dr Rane opined.
Medical Officer – Mandur RHTC Dr Nitin Dhuptale, Asst Professor in Psychiatric Social Work (IPHB) Sudesh Gaude, Asst Professor in Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing (IPHB) Vithoba Mhalkar, Azossim-Mandur Swayampurna Mitra Alex Vaz, Neura Sarpanch Sunita Naik and others also spoke on the occasion.
