Prominent industrialist Narayan Bandekar, popularly known as "Nana Bab", was felicitated by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and the who's who of Goa Inc on completing 75 years. Parrikar, who was also chief guest at the event, wished Bandekar good health and a long life. Parrikar also recalled several instances of his interactions with Bandekar.
A number of prominent industrialists hailed Bandekar for his generosity, calmness and steely determination. Shrinivas. V. Dempo
, noted industrialist, said, "Nana Bandekar has been a friend of three generations of Dempos. I admire his entrepreneurial guts and unwavering commitment. It is commendable that he has expanded his business not just in India but worldwide."
The most interesting speech of the evening was delivered by another industrialist, Anil Counto, who recounted many instances from his association with Bandekar over more than 40 years. Counto recalled, "In the early 1970s, when I had just started my business, I had no finance. During that time, Nana Bab wanted to get iron ore jetties constructed. I said that I can build the jetties, but I don't have finance and I need 25% mobilisation advance. Despite that, Nana Bab showed confidence in me and I constructed the jetties."
Bandekar is the immediate past president of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). His felicitation was co-hosted by GCCI, GSIA (Goa Small Industries Association), CII (Confederation of Indian Industry)'s Goa unit, CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India)-Goa.
Sandip Bhandare, president, GCCI, said, "My association with Nana Bab started in 2005 and I will always remember him for his generosity. He donated Rs 50 lakhs for GCCI and that's why chamber's office looks so nice."
A number of other speakers hailed Bandekar for his charitable efforts towards temples, business community, schools and also poor people. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH, Shripad Naik, was also a guest at the ceremony.
Bandekar owns Vasco based NRB Group and has business interests in mining, manufacturing and even in education. Recently, NRB Group got a pharmaceutical plant commissioned in Zambia.
