MARGAO
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas on Thursday thundered at the Benaulim gram sabha that under no circumstances the treated sewage water from the Colva STP will find its way into the river Sal via Benaulim.
He said the government should first test the mechanism where the treated sewage is to be put to use to flush rivers at the existing STPs, before discharging the treated sewage water from the Colva STP into river Sal.
Venzy further said the government can take the treated sewage water to the industries at Verna or reuse the same for sanitation or for gardening.
“The river Sal cannot be a trial ground to flush rivers with treated sewage waters. Let them test the mechanism in Panaji or in Margao, but not the river Sal,” he added.
“The bottom line is that the Colva STP water cannot go to the river Sal. We will go back to the court and I will be instrumental in knocking on the doors of the governor, the Chief Minister and the ministers”, he said.
Asserting that the Colva STP is not commissioned yet, the Benaulim MLA said it may take a long time for the STP to start operation given the lukewarm response from the stakeholders to the Colva sewerage project.
