Inebriated men picked bag with 40 cartridges: witness

MARGAO

As the Goa police heaved a sigh of relief after they managed to lay their hands on the bag containing 40 cartridges, it is now clear that the bag was lifted by two drunkards at the Margao railway station complex, hoping to find a booty.

The two drunkards lifted the unattended bag at the entrance to the railway station after the IRB constable reportedly returned to the bus after realizing that he had left his shoes behind the bus which had dropped him and other constables at the railway station.

Sources said before the IRB constable could come back to the spot where he had left the bag containing the cartridges, the two drunkards lifted the bag and headed to the Aquem side of the Margao railway station. Realizing that there was an item or two in the bag other than the cartridges, they abandoned the bag along the ring road and headed to the Davorlim spring to have drinks and a bath.

The police reached the spot since another beggar loitering around the railway station had seen the duo lifting the bag and heading to the Aquem side of the railway station.

“The duo must have abandoned the cartridges since they were not of much use for them and only lifted the other two items from the bag”, informed a police officer.

The officer pointed out that since no complaint was lodged on the matter, the bag and the cartridges were later handed over to the IRB.
