Speculations over ‘political agenda’ as Luizinho heads to national capital

MARGAO

As Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Luizinho Faleiro headed to the national capital on Thursday, speculations were rife whether the TMC leader from Goa has any political agenda in Delhi apart from attending a Parliamentary Committee meeting on Industries scheduled for Friday.

Faleiro, who is a member of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Industries, headed to Delhi on Thursday to attend the meeting on Friday.

Sources in the know say that Faleiro may stay put in the national capital for the next 3-4 days, raising questions about whether the Goa assembly elections will figure with other TMC leaders and whether any moves will be set in motion to bring together like-minded parties to keep the BJP out of government formation.

Faleiro, when contacted, insisted he is in the national capital to attend the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industries while refusing to talk on issues relating to politics.

When his attention was drawn to reports on social media that he does not figure in the national executive of the Trinamool Congress, Faleiro shot back saying the committee was dissolved around 10 days back, adding that only Mamata Banerjee has been re-elected as the Chairperson.

“Other than Mamata Banerjee, no other leader has been inducted on the national executive committee or other panels”, Faleiro said.

Meanwhile, even as Faleiro declined to field questions on politics and TMC’s prospects in the Goa elections, sources close to him pointed out that the TMC will pocket a couple of seats and together with the alliance partner, MGP, will play an important role in Goan politics in the coming days.

Sources close to the Rajya Sabha MP further said that Faleiro will play his due role in ensuring the BJP does not come to power in the State.

Another senior party leader from Goa, Churchill Alemao had earlier this week said that TMC supremo Mamata Didi will take a call on how the party will go about in the event the Goa elections throws up a hung assembly and the possibility of like-minded parties coming together in the formation of a government.

TMC sources stated that even if the party pockets a couple of seats in Goa, it would herald the arrival of the party in the coastal State, reminding that the Congress had come to power in Goa only in 1980.
