Inmates from Mapusa moved to Colvale jail

Inmates from Mapusa moved to Colvale jail

MAPUSA

All 70 inmates housed in Mapusa judicial custody were on Saturday moved to the Colvale jail.

With the shifting of the inmates, the judicial lockup at Mapusa has been shut.

IG Prisons Elvis Gomes confirmed that the inmates of Mapusa judicial custody were moved to Colvale.

“The Mapusa building housing the judicial custody inmates was in a dilapidated condition. From the security point of view too, it was not conducive to keep the prisoners in that building,” Gomes said.

Besides, the Academy of Prisons & Correctional Administration at Vellore-Karnataka, which had visited the State last year, had recommended the shifting of inmates, the IG Prisons said.

There are 167 under trials and 143 convicted prisoners in all in the Colvale jail.
