Interest waiver on agri loans below ` 1 lakh: Parrikar

The Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday promised, as part of the common minimum programme (CMP), that the interest on all farmer’s loans below Rs one lakh will be waived off.

Announcing this while unveiling the CMP, Parrikar said that farming needed to be mechanised in the State if it has to survive.   
“If farming remains labour intensive it will not survive. We will introduce an interest waiver on agricultural loans up to Rs 1 lakh,” Parrikar said. The CMP also promises to “formulate suitable policies and financial support to encourage mechanised farming and agriculture.” 
He also said that the State would begin branding of uniquely Goan products on the lines of feni in order for better marketing. TGN
