A two-day international conference, 'Educate, Empower, and Transform: SDG4 Quality Education', organized by Harmal Panchakroshi Shikshan Mandal’s Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, unfolded as a commendable platform for intellectual discourse and collaboration.
Held recently, the conference aimed to address the challenges and opportunities associated with achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 - Quality Education.
The keynote speakers for the conference brought a global perspective to the discussions. Dr Lisa Mckay Brown, Associate Professor at Melbourne Graduate School of Education, Australia; Dr Shyamal Majumdar, Former Head of UNESCO - UNEVAC; Russell Cross, Professor in Additional Languages at Melbourne Graduate School of Education, Australia, and Dr Betsy Justus Briju, co-director of Mati-Paani-Asha Centre, Umerkhed, Maharashtra, shared their insights and expertise.
A noteworthy panel discussion on ITEP (Integrated Teacher Education Programme) strengths and challenges provided a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing teacher education in the current context.
The inaugural session witnessed the presence of Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanawade as the chief guest. Tanawade lauded the relentless efforts of Harmal Panchakroshi Shikshan Mandal in the field of education.
Laxmikant Parsekar, Chairman of Harmal Panchakroshi Shikshan Mandal, Dr Pandurang Pandit, Principal of Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Prof Megha Uplane, and Kavitha Nair, assistant professor in zoology and coordinator of the conference, were present for the session.
The conference saw active participation from various parts of India, signifying the widespread interest and commitment to advancing the cause of quality education. The conference fostered collaboration, dialogue, and a collective commitment towards achieving the goals of quality education. The valedictory function of the conference saw the presence of Dr Harilal B Menon, vice-chancellor of Goa University, who shared his valuable insights, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing quality education.
The formal function was hosted by Savia D'Souza, assistant professor in Education, and Suraj Parmekar, assistant professor in mathematics.
