Yoga Day gets all out response in State

Schools, govt and private institutions participate

The International Day of Yoga was observed across the State with various schools, government institutions as well as private institutions participating in the event.

Over a lakh students from schools across Goa observed the day within their school premises between 7 am to 9 am, which was jointly organised by the State Education Department and Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.

“The day was observed at various indoor halls in the state from 7 am to 7.35 am. There was 100 per cent participation from NCC cadets and about 20000 NSS volunteers have participated. Many schools have observed it on Saturday and some are doing it on Monday ," said Director of Sports and Youth Affairs V M Prabhudessai.

Students of Dr K B Hedgewar High School in Bambolim participated in three venues organised on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

Around 250 students from standard eighth participated at three venues - health department function at Club Gaspar Dias, Miramar, NCC function at Campal and the one organised at the school premises in Kujira.

“We observed the International Yoga Day at school premises in Kujira. Our schools will also observe Yoga Week from June 20 to June 27. During the week, around 120 students from different classes will observe the same programme”, informed Headmaster Vilas Satarkar.

Apart from the week, as part of the follow-up activity, the school will also follow the one-hour programme chalked by the AYUSH Ministry on every Saturday for all students throughout the year.

In Mushtifund High School about 350 students of standard eighth and ninth participated in the ‘Yoga Day’ programme which began at 8.15am.

Five girl students along with a trained Patanjali instructor held a demonstration at the school.

While the Diocesan schools plan to observe ‘International Yoga Day’ today, a Muslim minority school also observed it on Sunday.

In Jadeed Urdu High School and Jadeed English High School, around 300 students participated in the celebration.

“We observed the day in the school premises from 8 am to 9 am. The asanas in standing position included Vrikshasan, Padahastasan,Ardhachakrasan and Trikonasan. The asanas in sitting position included Baddhpadmasan, Shashankasan and vakrasana, while those in abdominal position included Bhujangasan and Shavasan," informed the physical education teacher Raghoba Kothavale.
