An interstate truck rammed into a roadside tree near the Karmalghat at Gulem-Canacona.
According to sources, the incident took place as the Karnataka-registered truck was proceeding towards Margao.
While the driver escaped unhurt, the vehicle sustained extensive damages in the mishap.
Though the exact cause of the mishap is unclear, locals accused the driver of driving in a rash and negligent manner.
They also blamed the narrow stretch of the highway and the presence of large trees very close to the road, claiming that these two factors had led to a number of mishaps in the area.
