The Sancoale village Bio diversity management committee (SVBDMC) on Wednesday informed that some members were informed that investment promotion board (IPB) has resubmitted the proposal for two marinas, one at Sancoale bay and the other at Nauxi bay.
Speaking to the media , SVBDMC Chairman Navin Jha said that during the last meeting on September 9, the topic of marinas came up when a presentation was held in Sancoale Panchayat office in the presence of MLA Alina Saldanha, Sarpanch of VP Sancoale Girish Pillai, members of heritage committee and main members of SVBDMC.
Jha said that the last meeting was held at Sancoale Panchayat during which various issues and suggestions were taken up to ensure that Sancoale bay is declared a biodiversity hotspot.
“Subject of the marinas was also raised on the same day and it was informed to members that IPB of Goa Government had again proposed two marinas. One each in Sancoale and Nauxi bay,” said Jha.
“I am not sure how far this could be true but we at SVBDMC are sure that the proposal would be opposed by us as Sancoale bay was to be protected and hence no Marina’s could be allowed here at any cost,” Jha added.
Jha further informed that Sancoale village panchayat sarpanch Girish Pillai and MLA Alina Saldanha opposed the proposal and hence a unanimous decision to oppose Marina of any sort at Sancoale bay has been taken.
Meanwhile member of SVBDMC Edward Fernandes said that during the last presentation meeting, a resolution for drone mapping for Sancoale bay was taken up and that Sarpanch had agreed and assured to bear the cost of the drone mapping and also have a ward wise committee to do the drone mapping.
We have not received any official communication of any sorts on the set up of Marina, said Pillai.
Sarpanch says no official communication on marina project
VASCO: The Sarpanch of VP Sancoale Girish Pillai on Wednesday said that he was not aware of any such proposal for setting up of Marina in Sancoale bay.
“I am not aware of any such proposal nor has the Panchayat got any written or official communication regarding such a proposal of setting up of Marina here. Till now there is nothing legal about it. Secondly even if a proposal of this type comes, we will not support it and we will strongly oppose the proposal. We are here for the villagers and we will not take up anything that is against the wish of our villagers. As far as the SVBDMC is concerned, we will support any financial need required by them for drone mapping of the area. Drone mapping is for the development of the village and we are supporting it,” said Pillai
