CM ON 'LAST' MEETINGS
When asked if current meet was the last of IPB in this government’s tenure, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “Unless elections are declared and code of conduct enforced, how I can say it is the last. For instance, the previous cabinet meeting, as we thought would be the last one, but now I am of the opinion that we should go for one more cabinet meeting.”

The investment promotion board (IPB) in its 14th meeting cleared 15 projects of the 34 proposals, which were up for its approval. Meanwhile, 19 other projects have been deferred.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “We cleared 15 projects today, which will bring Rs 885 crore of investment and have the potential of creating 2,133 jobs. Of these, seven are industrial projects and eight are hospitality projects.”
Parsekar continued, “Of the industrial projects, two are electronic system design manufacturing (ESDM) projects, two are fish processing projects, one is a pharmaceutical project, one a tiles project and another electrical project."
From employment viewpoint, the most important project IPB cleared was Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC)’s project for development of passenger ropeway and allied tourism activities between Panaji and Reis Magos, which is set to create 700 jobs. Meanwhile, this project will also require investment of Rs 100 crore.
IPB cleared another GTDC project, which concerns with development and renovation of its residency at Britona. This project will require an investment of Rs 105.6 crore and create 165 jobs.
The two seafood processing units approved by IPB belong to Joecons Marine Exports and CK Agro Product respectively. Joecons Marine Exports’s seafood processing unit is expected to come up at Cuncolim, which will create 150 jobs and bring in Rs 50 crores of investment.
CK Agro Product’s seafood processing unit is expected to come up at Sanguem Industrial Estate, which will require Rs 25 crore of investment and create 75 jobs.
Meanwhile, IPB also gave its in-principle nod to two ESDM projects. One of them belongs to Tienda Advanced Materials for setting up of a new manufacturing unit of FRP Randome, which is used in telecommunications industry. This project will come up at Verna Industrial Estate.
On the deferred projects, a source revealed, “These projects will be given to a consultant to study and prepare a fact-sheet. Once that is done, they will be presented to IPB for its approval.”
