With the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Luizinho Faleiro adopting the ‘good riddance to bad garbage’ theory, Congress on Tuesday made feeble attempts at heaving a sigh of relief in public over the exit of its two sitting MLAs Pandurang Madkaikar of Cumbarjua and Mauvin Godinho of Dabolim and a possible candidate for Pernem Manohar ‘Babu’ Ajgaonkar.
While Ajgaonkar has joined Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Godinho recently made an entry into to Bharatiya Janata Party, Madkaikar is set to join BJP on Thursday.
Speaking at Congress House, GPCC president Faleiro stated, “the same BJP leaders were shouting from the rooftops that certain Congressmen were corrupt. These same BJP leaders have filed court cases against the Congressmen, who will now join the ruling party. I am happy that they have taken our garbage to enrich themselves.”
He further said, “It took them five years to appreciate the qualities of these Congressmen and by welcoming these Congressmen into their santum sanctorum, the BJP has exonerated our party.”
Training guns directly at his former brothers in arms, Faleiro said that they were afraid of the BJP owing to their sins of omission and commission. “All those with similar fears are free to go and join the BJP,” he declared in a rare show of emotion.
Meanwhile, the manifesto committee of GPCC convened its first meeting on Tuesday.
The prominent decisions include formulation of a Goa-centric and people- centric manifesto based on the Goa-model of development suited to the needs and issues of Goans.
“The committee has also decided to elicit views of the stakeholders. We don’t want to have a Gujarat or a Delhi model in Goa,” Faleiro said.
