Seven projects with a cumulative investment of Rs 180 crore and potential to generate over 1,200 jobs got the nod of the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (GIPFB).
The GIPFB meeting which deliberated the proposals and approved them was held on late Friday evening and was chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
In the deliberations on Friday, the Board also took stock of the progress on implementation of past investment proposals approved by it besides reviewing the status of the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ interventions and initiatives of the government.
Interestingly, of the seven projects approved by the Board, three are food enterprises “ two food processing and cold storage units and the third a food supplements and consumables project.
There is one proposal in the logistics sector, which the State over the last couple of years has been overtly attempting to promote in light of the commissioning of the Mopa airport.
Two other projects approved are of established large companies including one electrical manufacturing unit envisaging an investment of Rs 20 crore by Finolex Cables Ltd and another by Siemens Ltd of Rs 60 crore, both at their existing locations in the Verna Industrial Estate.
The seventh project is a paper-based product manufacturing proposal of A&G Sequeira Enterprise LLP worth Rs 4.57 crore and proposed at the Pissurlem Industrial Estate.
The two food processing and cold storage projects are both proposed at the Sanguem Industrial Estate. One is Rs 20 crore proposal on a 13,500 sq mtrs parcel of land from M/s Fresh de Goa Seafoods LLP which claims it will employ 250 people.
The second project is proposed by M/s Goa Marine Products Pvt Ltd on a 6,500 sq mtr parcel of land again in the Sanguem Industrial Estate. It promises to provide an identical 250 jobs with a total investment of Rs 23 crore.
M/s Maple Bud Pvt Ltd with an investment of Rs 3 crore at the Panchwadi Industrial Estate proposes to employ 41 persons manufacturing food supplements and consumables. It needs 3,300 square meters of land.
The logistics sector project is promoted by M/s Maritime Global Logistics & Warehousing Corporation at the Verna Industrial Estate utilising 24,000 sq mtrs of land. The investment involved is Rs 49.2 crore and it claims an employment potential of nearly 500.
