IPHB ceiling collapse

THE GOAN Network

Chunks of loose concrete from the ceiling in ward No. 3 of the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, Bambolim, gave way at around 8.30 on Monday night. A pile of the debris could be seen at the entrance of the ward.

Dr Shilpa Waikar, the medical superintendent of IPHB, informed that the 20 patients who were lodged in the ward were shifted to Ward No 1 after the accident.

Denying reports of one patient being injured in the accident, Dr Waikar maintained, “None of the patients were hurt.”

She stated that a team from Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation visited the ward to inspect the damage. “The repairs will be carried out by the GSIDC once it decides on the extent of work required,” she affirmed.

Sources from GSIDC, however, maintained that the corporation was not entrusted the work of carrying out repairs at the IPHB. It was revealed that the GSIDC had recently conducted repair works after a similar incident at the IPHB, solely on the basis of the urgency of the matter.
