Anjuna Police busted an IPL cricket betting racket operating from a flat in a residential building at Assagao on Saturday and arrested seven persons from Maharashtra and Gujarat. Equipment worth around Rs 6 lakh was also seized during the raid.

Police said they received reliable information that betting on Indian Premier League matches was being carried out from a flat in Assagao.

Acting on the tip-off, police raided the flat and allegedly caught the suspects red-handed using mobile phones to accept bets on the IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, along with other online betting platforms.

The seven accused have been identified as Nikhil Poptani from Pune, Vicky Vishwakarma from Thane, Kamlesh Bhakhru from Gujarat, Naveen Talreja from Thane, Rahul Shamdasani from Thane, Rohit Kanjam from Thane, and Bharat Namani from Gujarat.

Police seized eight mobile phones, a television set and other equipment collectively valued at around Rs 6 lakh.

According to police, the accused had allegedly started the betting operation after the 2026 IPL season began on March 28.

Investigators believe the flat in Assagao had been rented specifically for running the betting racket during the tournament.

The case is being investigated by Anjuna Police under the supervision of Police Inspector Suraj Gawas.
