Irked by water shortage, Koparde locals give ultimatum to officials

VALPOI

Blaming authorities for failing to supply sufficient water supply since the last two months, a group of residents from Koparde village in Sattari taluka confronted water supply officials on Friday morning.

Aggrieved villagers also threatened to hold an indefinite protest against the authorities if the problem is not resolved within two days.

Responding to their grievances, authorities have assured to provide sufficient water from a different pipeline.

A number of villagers from Sattari taluka have been suffering from acute water shortage since the last two months, compelling many residents from different villages to march to the water supply department office at Valpoi to confront officials.

On Friday, residents of Koparde went to the water supply department office at Valpoi and confronted Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste, accusing officials of neglecting water supply in the village.

A resident, Sripad Sawant, accused an operator of failing to efficiently distribute water supply in the village and along with the other villagers demanded his transfer to another area. Paste assured to look into their grievances against the operator.

Another villager, Sahyaji Sawant, demanded a resolution to the erratic water supply which has affected nearly 150 houses in the area. He suggested that water tankers be dispatched to the village till water problems are resolved.

Later speaking to The Goan, Paste said the water supply section has begun laying a pipeline and it should be completed within the next two days. “Then, water supply problems will be completely resolved,” said Paste.
