Parts of Bardez still continue to remain parched, as supply of PWD pipeline water has still not stabilised due to non-functioning of motors in Assonora treatment plant.
Water supply continues to be irregular in several parts of Aldona, Mapusa, Tivim, Calangute and Siolim constituencies. Assagao residents complained that they have not been getting pipeline water for the last four days.
“We have not got a drop of water for the last three to four days. Fortunately, many of us have wells so it does not make a difference to us. But what about others who have no wells,” said Owen Braganza, a resident of Assagao.
Residents of Anjuna also grumbled that supply of pipeline water has been reduced to a trickle for the last couple of days. “Earlier too we had a problem in Anjuna and Chapora. But now for the last three days it has become worse. We are getting water for just a little over an hour but that too in a trickle,” said Michael D’Souza, a resident of Anjuna.
Sources informed that two motors at one of the three plants at the Assonora treatment plant had burnt last week and were sent for repairs to Bangalore while a third motor that was sent for repairs was yet to be received.
Out of the three treatment plants in Assonora, two plants have been functioning in full capacity and water is supplied to Bardez and parts of Bicholim.
“The problem will continue for at least another three to four days. Once we get the motors the third plant can also be operationalised and normalcy will then be restored,” a PWD official informed.
It may be recalled on Tuesday (September 11) the PWD department had released a statement stating that due to some major electrical fault at Assonora water treatment plant there will be restricted water supply to Bardez and parts of Bicholim.
