A Chimbel local from Chinchwada-Chimbel was assaulted on Tuesday night by a group of five history sheeters from Indira Nagar-Chimbel and Merces, for allegedly opposing the proposed IT Park in Chimbel.
Ravindra alias Pravin Chopdekar informed The Goan that the five history sheeters had approached him when he was standing near the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception chapel and they started assaulting him without any reason.
“This attack was the result of my statement made against the IT Park on November 23, where AAP leaders had also spoke against the same,” Chopdekar said.
Asked why he suspected the attack to be related to his opposition to the proposed IT Park, Chopdekar said: “Before the attack, I had got a call from a person who had asked him to meet a history sheeter from Santa Cruz over his statements made against the IT Park.”
“I declined to meet the history sheeter and later, the attack took place,” he further stated.
Chopdekar stated that he was assaulted with some sharp weapon, due to which he received a head injury and that, he stopped a police vehicle passing by and was later shifted to GMC hospital by an ambulance.
On hearing of the attack, some villagers and activists gathered at the Casualty of GMC in support of Chopdekar, while condemning the attack as a cowardly attempt to silent opposition to the proposed IT Park project.
The activists have further demanded a thorough probe in the matter and arrest those involved in the attack on Chopdekar.
