With barely a day left for campaigning, BJP rebel & Independent candidate Isidore Fernandes stepped up his poll campaign in Canacona municipality and Palolem on Friday.
Fernandes’ campaign has been boosted with the support from Poinguinim ZP member Shobhana Velip, Agonda Sarpanch Badal Naikgaunkar, Poinguinim Sarpanch Jagdish Gaonkar, Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik, Gaondongrim Sarpanch Anjali Velip and Khotigao Sarpanch Daya Gaonkar.
In the last few days, Fernandes had been campaigning either individually or only with 2-3 supporters from respective areas as he had been meeting people at their houses.
Fernandes had given special emphasis on Agonda, Shrishthal (Gulem, Chapoli, Vodamol, Bhatpal) and Poinguinim (Ordhfond, Galgibaga, Sadolxem, Welwada, etc), before turning his attention to Canacona municipality and Palolem.
Fernandes has also covered Chaudi, Ponsulem, Nagorcem, Palolem, Ourem, Devabhag, Rajbhag-Tarir and Kindlem, which are represented by ruling Canacona councillors who are supporting BJP candidate Ramesh Tawadkar.
Former BJP Mandal President Nandip Bhagat, who is supporting Fernandes, said: “We are not against BJP but the candidate in particular. We praise Fernandes for his brave decision to contest as an Independent.”
