MAPUSA
Barely 24-hours after the State experienced heavy rainfall that led to flooding of Mapusa market and several city streets, the PWD taps went dry in the city on Thursday.
Several areas in the city did not receive pipeline water making it difficult on the locals.
“It’s ironic isn’t it? We have been receiving so much rain and yet the PWD fails to supply proper water to the locals,” said Mohamed Mira from D’Mello-waddo, Canca.
Sources in the PWD informed that Assonora treatment plant suffered a power cut and therefore no water was released to parts of Mapusa in the evening.
“I don’t think we will be able to release water in the evening as our overhead tanks do not have enough water,” a senior PWD official told The Goan.
“Water supply could be restored by Friday morning,” the official added.
It may be recalled Mapusa and surrounding villages suffered similar water shortage just around a week back due to ongoing work to change the “media filter” at the treatment plant.
Mapusa and its suburbs have been facing the worst crisis on the electricity and water front for the last several months.
