The Honda gram sabha on Sunday witnessed noisy scenes after one of the panchas allegedly used an "abusive" word during discussion of the issue of erection of mobile phone tower in the village.
The villagers have raised serious concern over misconduct of the pancha and said it was an insult to the public.
A large number of villagers were present for the gram sabha and many issues were raised.
Prasad Naik raised the issue of mobile phone tower and demanded for justification. "Why this tower is allowed in front of the panchayat building? It will have an effect on the students studying in Government High School and Honda Private High School," he said.
Many locals including Ashok Dhawaskar expressed anger over the erection of mobile tower and demanded the panchayat to revoke the NOC granted for the tower.
A panch member took part in the discussion and allegedly used an "abusive" word, and argued and supported the mobile tower. At this, the villagers got angry and confronted the pancha for about 15 minutes.
Sarpanch Atmaram Gaonkar assured the gram sabha not to permit the company to put the mobile tower into operation.
The villagers also raised the issue of dilapidated condition of the panchayat building, where a nursery was running.
Ashok Dhawaskar demanded urgent repairs of the building and said lives of the students and businessmen, who are running their shops, is involved. The sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch Shashikala Rane assured urgent attention in this regard.
Panchayat secretary Bharat Mahale read the minutes of last gram sabha.
Speaking to The Goan on misconduct of a pancha, locals demanded with the government authorities to initiate legal action in the matter.
