Margao Municipal Council babus and city fathers were exposed hollow over the pre-monsoon works as rain water not only inundated the Municipal square, but the building passage was flooded with ankle-deep water on Tuesday evening.
It took just half an hour of heavy downpour at around 5.30 pm to flood the road passing in front of the Municipal building. Municipal office goers had a torrid time as they had to wait for the rain to subside as the area notified for vehicular parking was completely inundated.
Employees and members of the public took shelter on the steps of the Municipal building as the water entered the building passage at around 5.45 pm.
The half-a-dozen cobblers doing their business in the Municipal building passage, on the Kohinoor and Penguin hotel side, had to wind up their business for the day.
In fact, the cobblers were seen trying to salvage their items from being washed away in the water.
The employees and members of the public had to wait for the rains to subside as their parking lot in front of the Municipal building was completely inundated. Two-wheelers were spotted partly submerged in the flood water.
Vehicular traffic passing on the road in front of the Municipal building was disrupted as the vehicles had to ply through flooded roads.
Motorcycle pilots plying from the eastern side of the MMC building were also affected in the heavy downpour, forcing them to take shelter in the building passage.
