The alliance announcement was made by alliance convener, Subhash Velingkar who said that the chief ministerial candidate of the alliance will be Sudin Dhavalikar. The alliance parties have also announced to discontinue grants to the 132 minority-run English medium primary schools once its government comes to power.
The parties have decided to contest 37 seats in alliance. While four constituencies “ Saligao, Mormugao, Cuncolim and Tivim will be fought by Sena, the six seats of Sankhali, Mayem, Curchorem, Panaji, Velim and Siolim will be fought by GSM. The remaining 27 will be contested by MGP.
Addressing a press conference after announcing the alliance, Velingkar said, “The MGP-GSM-SS alliance will be based on a common minimum programme which will be drawn by all three parties. However, all parties will have their independent agenda.”
Aiming at smooth coordination between the alliance parties as and when required, a coordination committee comprising members of all three alliance partners has also been formed.
“We have finalised candidates in almost in all the constituencies, which will be announced in phases. Alliance partners will contest 37 seats. If any strategy has to be drawn in the remaining three constituencies, GSM and SS have given all the rights to MGP. And once elected to power, Sudin will lead our alliance government as the CM,” said Velingkar.
“We will withdraw grants to the English medium primary schools and we are against the National Education Policy. This is the main agenda on our common point programme,” he said. When asked about post-poll alliance will BJP, Sudin Dhavalikar said, “There is no question at this stage of tying with any party. We definitely know that we will win more than 21 seats. You have to use ‘chanakyaniti’ in politics which we have used in the past.”
