It’s official. The planned annual power shut down in South Goa by the Electricity Department will take place on May 21.
In a notice issued on Friday, the office of Superintending Engineer, South Goa has announced that the Electricity Department has planned the annual Maintenance Shutdown at EHV sub-stations in South Goa at 220KV Xeldem Sub-Station, 220 KV Cuncolim Sub-Station and 110 KV Verna Sub-Station on Sunday 21 May 2023, from 7 am to 3 pm.
Hence there will be no power supply during above period in entire South Goa except Ponda taluka.
The areas affected by the shutdown including the entire talukas of Canacona, Salcete, Sanguem, Quepem, Mormugao and part of Dharbandora taluka, including the panchayat areas of Kirtapal-Dabal, Shigao-Collem, Mollem and part of Ponda taluka i.e. VP Panchwadi.
The notice further stated that the annual shutdown is purely for maintenance of 220KV & 110KV (Extra High Voltage) interstate & intrastate lines and EHV sub-stations at Xeldem, Cuncolim & Verna only. Consequent upon this there will be no power supply to all the associated 33/11KV Sub-Stations & lines in South Goa, the notice stated.
This is the third time that the Power Department has issued notice announcing the annual planned power shut down in South Goa. However, the notices issued on two previous occasions were withdrawn, first in view of the Shigmotsav celebrations and last month in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Maan ki Baat.
