A Headland Sada jeweller has been booked after a woman alleged that he failed to return gold ornaments pledged against a loan of nearly Rs 30 lakh, even after she repaid a large part of the amount.
The complaint was filed by Bhagyashree Mesta, a resident of Headland Sada, Mormugao.
She stated that on June 5, 2025, she and a relative pledged around 224 grams of gold ornaments with PBC Jewellers, owned by Bhimappa Chalwadi, and took a gold loan.
According to the complaint, between January and April 2026, she repaid Rs 16.9 lakh through UPI transfers and by mortgaging old ornaments. However, she alleged that despite these repayments, the jeweller did not return the pledged gold ornaments belonging to her and her relative, resulting in financial loss and breach of trust.
Mormugao police have registered a case against Chalwadi under Sections 316(5) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is being carried out by PSI Suraj Naik under the supervision of PI Sheriff Jacques and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
