The Director of Education Vandana Rao IAS has issued a circular to all schools, including aided, unaided and special, to organise the Fit India Plogging run.
“It is enjoined upon all the heads of the government, government-aided, unaided, special schools to organise Fit India Plogging Run, and furnish an action-taken report in the form of details of participation photographs and videos on the Fit India portal,” the circular states.
The run will be at least for two kilometres, and students are supposed to collect garbage on the way. Plastic can be collected from homes, streets, or along the path of the run.
The same is being enforced because Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Fit India campaign on August 29 this year to “inculcate physical activity, sports in the daily lives of citizens.”
Meanwhile, the Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) is organizing an inclusive plogging run for Fit India today, October 2, from 10.30 am from the Old Directorate of Education building on 18th June Road, Panaji, to the Directorate of Social Welfare. The run is part of the all India Swachhata Bharat programme of the Sports Authority of India on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Persons with disability and members of society will come together to walk for Fit India, said Avelino De Sa, President of DRAG. “We will clean up the accessible entrance for persons with disability at Junta House Panaji,” De Sa said on Tuesday. Nila Mohanan IAS, the Secretary for Education, has consented to be the chief guest and flag off the walk.
In addition, Vikas Gaunekar Additional Collector (North) will distribute the certificates to participants at the end of the walk.
