A joint inspection was conducted of the area outside the GMC hospital at Bambolim on Tuesday, to find ways to regulate traffic.
Those present at the joint inspection included St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, North Goa District Collector Sneha Gitte, traffic and PWD officials.
Borkar pointed to the Collector the areas where haphazard parking is done as also parking in no-parking zones which results in traffic congestion.
The MLA further demanded that such parking should not be allowed and violators should be fined.
Later speaking to reporters, MLA Borkar informed that traffic congestion has become a daily problem outside the GMC.
"And it happens mainly due to haphazard parking, parking in no-parking zones, parking on both sides of the roads, etc.," informed Borkar, while adding that the inspection was held to address the traffic congestion issue and find ways to ease it.
"The Collector has assured that a proper traffic plan will be worked out along with the Traffic SP so that a solution is arrived at," the MLA further added.
Borkar further said that he has given a suggestion that the area near the GMC quarters could be used for creating parking space.
"The parking spaces at GMC and the super speciality hospital are always full and if a parking area is earmarked at the GMC quarters, it would help the problem of lack of parking space, which in turn will help in smooth flow of traffic," Borkar stated.
