Ridiculing Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Deepak Naik's claim that garbage could not be lifted as compactors were in pathetic condition, NCP State president Jose Philip D’Souza accused Naik of trying to save his skin by blaming the vehicles which the council had failed to maintain.
Addressing a news conference in Vasco on Friday, D'Souza said garbage is seen all over Vasco and in some places it stinks, but the chairperson is blaming the vehicles instead of clearing the garbage.
“If he cannot perform, then he should quit and give an opportunity to a capable person to carry out development of the port town,” said D’Souza.
Commenting on the statement made by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida in the assembly that Vasco Police failed to curb the rising menace of drugs peddling, D’Souza said it is easy to blame the police when the administration has failed to keep a check on drug peddling all over the State.
Speaking on construction of a retaining wall at Bhouter behind KTC bus stand, D’Souza said during his tenure he had persuaded Goa Shipyard Ltd to bear the cost of the construction of the retaining wall and accordingly GSL had deposited about Rs 1.5 crore with the Water Resources Department to carry out the work.
“It's surprising that instead of utilizing the money deposited by GSL, the government found it fit to return the amount to GSL and use public funds to construct the retaining wall,” said D’Souza.
