Canacona Patrakar Sangh (CPS) marked Patrakar Din by felicitating 10 farmers at a paddy field in Gulem-Canacona.
The portrait of nationalist, social reformer and a freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Lokmanya Tilak was garlanded on his death anniversary (Punyatithi) at the site.
Ten prominent farmers from communities in Gulem, Chapoli were felicitated for their farming activities over several decades.
The farmers Ram Velip, Panglo Velip, Pangodo Gaonkar, Kantu Gaonkar, Ghatu Velip, Fondu Velip, Parvathi Gaonkar, Chandrakant Gaonkar, Ganesh Velip and Bangdu Gaonkar were felicitated on the occasion.
Two of the felicitated farmers are above 90 years while four others are above 75 years, and a woman farmer is an octogenarian.
Shristhal panchayat panch members, Ward panch Nilesh Gaonkar and neighboring Chapoli panch Ganesh Gaonkar were present and spoke on the sacrifices of the farmers.
Earlier, CPS President Babesh Borkar welcomed, while senior journalist Ajit Poinguinkar gave an speech on the functioning of journalists in present circumstances.
Photo journalist Soiru Komarpant and Journalist Narayan Desai spoke on Tilak’s contribution to the farming community. The function was compered by journalist Sanjay Komarpant, while the journalists present at the site sought the blessings of the traditional farmers.
