OLD GOA
The Kala Academy College of Theatre Arts has initiated a ‘Swaccha Goa Swaccha Neura’ campaign in collaboration with Neura panchayat, under the ‘Mission Clean Goa’.
The initiative has been started by the Sanjeevan Society for Youth Development in association with the Directorate of Higher Education, on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi which aims at making Goa garbage free.
Under the initiative, the Neura panchayat has been provided with special bins to collect the Ganesha puja waste (Nirmalya) that is usually released in water bodies, to keep the water bodies clean.
At all Ganesh idol immersion sites, separate bins will be placed to collect puja items and ‘nirmalya', which will later be transferred to the composting unit set up in the panchayat.
To propagate this message, a special Ganapati aarti booklet with instructions to deposit Nirmalya in bins was prepared and released recently by Prof. Ramrao Wagh, Principal of the college, in the presence of Neura Sarpanch Usha Naik, former sarpanch Ujwala Naik and office bearers of Village Organisation ‘Udaan’.
The pamphlets were distributed by members of ‘Udaan’ and college students by visiting houses to spread awareness. The student incharge Adarsh Govekar explained the concept to the villagers.
This drive is planned and supported by the students under the guidance of Director of Physical Education and Sports Swapnil Bhaip, college counsellor Chaitali Gawas with the active support of Principal Prof Wagh, Neura Sarpanch Usha Naik, panchas Ujwala Naik and Sandesh Naik, VP Secretary Elba, Swayampurna Mitra Madhu Narvekar, Dayanand Arya HS headmaster Madhav Kharvi, Azmane HS headmaster Shivkumar Naik, members of ‘Udaan’, youth club and village development committee.
