Chief Minister Pramod Sawant declined to comment on possible action against contractors for alleged sub-standard repairs of Kala Academy, in view of leakages and waterlogging.
“I will submit the report,” was his response to media questions about the government’s previous statement to blacklist contractors involved in poor work.
Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao, who inspected Kala Academy with government officials and artists, has demanded a white paper on the repairs, describing his inspection as “horrifying.” Alemao also plans to submit a detailed report to the CM, seeking time-bound action.
“It was a horrifying experience at Kala Academy during my inspection with the concerned officials, artists, and technical staff. I am preparing a detailed report and will submit it to the CM, demanding time-bound action on it,” Alemao stated.
He insisted on a judicial inquiry and accountability for sub-standard work, which experts have noted. “My demand for a white paper and judicial inquiry on the repair, renovation, and refurbishment work still stands. I will raise the issue in the upcoming Assembly Session. No one should be spared for this criminal act of destroying Kala Academy,” he stated.
On Wednesday, the PWD’s technical plans for sound, lights, and acoustics were reviewed by experts, who allegedly exposed ambiguities and outdated equipment. Alemao demanded a thorough examination and action against those responsible. “I don’t want to politicise the issue, but responsibility should be fixed, and action taken against all those who are responsible for the mess,” he demanded.
