Following inspection of the Kalsa-Bhandura canal site, Water Resources Minister Vinoda Paliencar said Karnataka has started the construction work on head regulator and it has already diverted the water of Mhadei river tributary.
He also informed that the State will file a contempt petition before the Mhadei Tribunal over Karnataka's act of commencing the construction work on the canal.
Addressing media persons, Paliencar said, "I had gone with my team of engineers to the Kalsa-Bhandura site where Karnataka has begun construction of head regulator. The work is in full swing.
"I have already asked the North Goa Collector to write to Belagavi Collector directing them to immediately stop the work as it is in total violation of SC directives. The water which was flowing in Goa's direction has been diverted towards Karnataka. We will not let Kanataka finish the existence of river Mhadei. We will fight till we get justice. We will not tolerate this act by Karnataka", he stated condemning the dirty politics being played by Karnataka over Mhadei issue.
Paliencar also said that the letter by Chief Minister to Karnataka State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa on holding bilateral talks with Karnataka is not the directives of the Court.
"I feel CM's letter is not the directive of the court. Karnataka should also not misunderstand his letter", he said.
On Friday, Parrikar had directed the Chief Secretary to write to Karnataka asking them to immediately stop the work on the bund at Kalsa.
