Even as the Margao Municipal Council has sent a request to the Goa College of Engineering to conduct a structural stability test on the Dawood building, Margao, MLA Digambar Kamat has suggested to the South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus to hold a meeting between the building owner and the tenants.
Margao Municipal Chief Officer Melvyn Vaz told The Goan that his office has sent a request to the Goa College of Engineering to conduct the structural stability test on the building which was engulfed by a major fire on Wednesday noon. “We expect the engineering college to conduct the stability test at the earliest,” Vaz said.
Meanwhile, during the meeting with the District Collector and other officers held near the Dawood building on Thursday, the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had suggested to convene a joint meeting with the building owner and the tenants to explore the possibility of working out a solution to the ownership issue.
For, a group of residents of the building had said they had in the past requested the owner to sell the building to them for consideration. The owner, on the other hand, has contended that he could not undertake repair to the building given the paltry rent paid by the tenants.
To resolve all issues, the Margao MLA later requested the district Collector to hold a joint meeting between the owner and tenants to work out a solution.
