Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has said the Congress party is fully confident of comfortably winning both South and North Goa Zilla Panchayat constituencies despite the tactics adopted by the BJP government to discourage voters.
“The initial low voter turnout in the morning was a clear indication of people’s resentment against the failure of the government to support them during critical times. BJP tried to discourage people from voting as they fully knew that people’s sentiments are against the government. The tall claims of BJP of development and progress have fallen flat,” Kamat said.
Claiming that the BJP used government machinery for campaigning, he said the CM and all Cabinet ministers campaigned openly holding meetings despite the Model Code of Conduct being in force. The Opposition was not allowed door-to-door campaigns, he added.
“People came out in the afternoon and appeared angry with the BJP and its allies. People expressed full confidence in Congress candidates and have voted against those sponsored by the BJP,” he said.
Kamat said he visited some of the constituencies in South, while GPCC President Girish Chodankar toured the North and gauged people’s pulse.
