Political heavyweights descended on the ground on Saturday, either to cast their vote or to express their solidarity with their candidates in the fray.
If Benaulim NCP MLA Churchill Alemao was seen moving in the constituency after casting his vote at the Varca polling booth, Nuvem BJP MLA Wilfred D’Sa was on the ground, apparently seeking the pulse of the voters.
Cuncolim BJP MLA Clafacio too was spotted in the Guirdolim constituency after he cast his vote in his home village Paroda.
Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat is also believed to have visited a couple of seats, including Benaulim and Colva.
The Benaulim MLA said that the NCP will win both the Benaulim and Colva seats with ease.
“I have faith in the people of Benaulim and Colva. They had supported me in many elections in the past, and I am confident they will stand by my candidates,” Churchill said.
Churchill’s son Savio was also seen moving around in the Benaulim ZP constituency along with close aides.
Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa said though voters have not come out in large numbers to cast their vote for the Nuvem seat, Independent candidate Dr Breezy Barretto backed by him and the panchayat members will win the seat by 200 per cent.
In the Velim ZP seat, Velim Sarpanch Savio D’Silva was spotted moving around in support of the Congress candidate Julio Fernandes.
