The Aam Aadmi Party has written to the State Election Commission saying it has received numerous phone calls from voters that the serial number of the voter from the voter’s list was written in ink behind their ballot paper.
In the letter, the AAP said this practice raises a serious question about the conduct of the election in a free and fair manner. Such a practice of writing voter serial number on back of ballot papers no longer ensures that one’s franchise is secret, it stated.
AAP Convenor Rahul Mhambre said, “As an individual voter and Convenor of AAP Goa, I would like to have an immediate clarification whether this practice is legal and according to the rules and regulations. Further, in case this practice is as per rules, it will only be appropriate to correct and rectify this process to assure voters that their vote remains confidential.”
