MARGAO
The absence of former MMC Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar and two-time councillor Damu Shirodkar, both from Digambar Kamat camp, at the meeting of the Margao Civic Alliance (MCA) on Tuesday raised many eyebrows in the city’s political circles.
Sources told The Goan while Ganashyam had called on Kamat before the scheduled meeting on Tuesday noon, Damu was part of the meeting chaired by the group. Sources said Damu, who was expecting Kamat to propose his name for the top post given that he was his close aide for a decade and a half, left the meeting after the Opposition leader announced Lyndon’s name.
Sources said Damu and his group were further infuriated after Kamat announced Deepali as the group’s nominee for the post of deputy.
A close supporter of Damu pointed out that the Opposition leader ought to have nominated the two-time councilor at least for the post of Vice-chairperson, before nominating him for the top post after 15 months.
When contacted, Damu made no secret of the fact that he has been deeply hurt after being ignored by the Opposition leader.
“I left the meeting called by Kamat midway after it became clear that injustice has been done to me. I was a loyal soldier of the Margao MLA for the last decade and a half,” Damu told the Goan.
Even Damu’s family members appeared hurt over the way his claim for the post of Chairperson was ignored by Kamat.
