Farmers and residents of Nuvem have thanked Water Resources Department engineer Mayur Borkar for starting work on the “Kamla Vholl” on the Nuvem–Raia–Fatorda border along the eastern bypass at Nuvem.

The proposal for the nullah was submitted to the WRD in 2024–25 along with farmers from Nuvem.

The reconstruction of this 1.5 km nullah is expected to protect large areas of paddy fields on the Nuvem side, which usually get flooded during the monsoon. It will also bring relief to farmers from Anuz and Kirbhat.

With the provision of intermediate bandharas and sluice gates, farmers will also get a good supply of water for horticulture.

Local resident and Congress leader Everson Vales told the media that farmers also thanked Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai for supporting the work, which will benefit farmers from Raia, Nuvem and Fatorda.
