A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered by the Mapusa Police following a road accident near Ankur Hospital in Mapusa earlier this month.
The incident occurred on February 9 at around 9.15 am on the main road from Ganeshpuri to Dattawadi in Mapusa.
Police said that the accused, identified as Taufique Vakeel Ahmed (37), a resident of Housing Board, Mapusa, was riding a scooter (GA-03-S-9833) towards Dattawadi when he allegedly drove in a rash and negligent manner, without due care and caution, thereby endangering human life.
Upon reaching near Ankur Hospital, the accused rider allegedly took a sudden right turn without giving a proper indicator signal and collided with another scooter (GA-03-AG-7610) that was proceeding behind him in the same direction.
As a result of the impact, the rider of the second scooter, identified as Sudhanshu Hanumant Salgaonkar, a resident of Oxel, Siolim, sustained serious injuries. The accused rider also suffered injuries in the accident.
An offence has been registered under Sections 281, 125(a), and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
A notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act has been issued to the accused. Further investigation is underway.
