KBM invites GKF for dialogue to resolve Romi script issue

MARGAO
Ahead of the 33rd session of the All India Konkani Parishad scheduled to take place at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on October 26-27, organisers Konkani Bhasha Mandal (KBM) on Thursday has invited Global Konknni Forum (GKF) and other organisations fighting for equal status for Romi Konkani to resolve the issue across the table and through dialogue.

The Global Konknni Forum had given a call to Konkani Roman script lovers to stage a protest outside the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Saturday morning when the Parishad begins its two-day session around the same time.

“Protest is the right of any individual or organisation. But, we feel that the issue raised by Global Konknni Forum can be resolved through discussions and dialogue. The All India Konkani Parishad is not the decision making body to decide on scripts. This issue has to be looked after by the Sahitya Akademi or by the court,” stated Prashant Naik.

He added: “The All India Konkani Parishad has not discriminated against any script or group. A month ago, we had spoken to the Forum leaders to come and discuss the issue across the table. We are open for a dialogue. They are our brothers. All differences should be resolved through dialogue.”

Meanwhile, KBM president Ratnamala Divkar has told the media that over 800 delegates are expected to participate in the two-day 33rd session of the All India Konkani Parishad organised by Konkani Bhasha Mandal on October 26-27 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

She said renowned linguist Dr Ganesh Devy will be the Chief Guest while Nandgopal Shenoy, President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Mangalore will be the Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony of the session which will be held at 9.30 am on October 26. Renowned industrialist Auduth Timblo will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony to be held at 3.30 pm on October 27.
