PANAJI
IT professional Sameer Kelekar on Saturday slammed Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte saying the duo do not understand the functioning of IT industry. Kelekar also criticized the draft IT policy mooted by the BJP government.
Speaking at Panaji, Kelekar pledged his support to Congress candidate Girish Chodankar at the upcoming by-poll in the capital city.
"Manohar Parrikar and Rohan Khaunte do not understand the IT industry. Parrikar has failed to set up an IT industry in the state. He has failed to create jobs and has failed to deliver the promises made to start-ups and entrepreneurs," Kelerar alleged.
He further questioned the wisdom behind Goa's IT policy whereby the state's energies are set to be focused on attracting big companies.
"Goa government has made record number of policies. These IT policies are not worth the paper they are printed on and are merely namesake. All our policies are geared towards the big companies with crores of turnover. They get all the contracts and not the start-ups. Goa government is mistaken that big companies wish to enter Goa," Kelekar argued.
He suggested that the government should instead consider appointing one or two independent IT professionals as full-time IT directors. "These professionals can meet CEOs in the industry and spread information. They can handhold these companies only if they are granted freehand and some budget to work independently," Kelekar stated.
Meanwhile, Chodankar, who was also present at the press briefing, agreed with Kelekar's views on the deplorable state of IT industry in Goa. "Jobs that were promised have not been created by BJP government. During my campaign in Panaji, I have observed that intellectuals are moving out because there is no employment in the state," he said.
