Tourism Minister & Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has directed officials to take measures to avoid flooding along the national highway in Porvorim during monsoon.
Khaunte held a review meeting with the departments concerned to discuss pre-monsoon preparedness and coordination between all departments during the rainy season in the Porvorim constituency.
The deputy collector and officials of Panchayats, PWD, electricity department, WRD, police, fire and emergency services and health services were present at the meeting.
Later speaking to reporters, the Minister said he has directed the contractor to take measures to prevent flooding due to faults in the construction of the highway. A disaster management plan was also discussed in the meeting.
Khaunte said the PWD has been instructed to clear all roadside gutters so that water does not overflow on roads during excessive rains, while all departments concerned have been asked to keep their manpower ready round the clock.
The electricity department has been directed to identify dark areas along the highway and illuminate them.
Commenting on the Porvorim traffic issue, Khaunte said he has written to the deputy collector to implement a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours in Porvorim.
